I have a canon es8400v hi-8 camcorder. The picture was really fuzzy and it ate a few tapes on me. A head cleaner did not clean them or get it to stop eating tapes. Seeing as how it was WAY past warenty I took certin parts of the case off to get at all the heads and ’spinners’ or ‘rollers’. I used rubbing alcohol and Q tips to clean them. I put everything back together and now the picture is great but it is no longer recording sound. The face plate was one of the things that came off in the prosses, which is where the conection for the spot light and the mic is, I made sure to not touch any chips with my fingers and I was maticulis to where things came out. It seems to be conected corectly b/c the spotlight still works(which has the same conecter as the microphone). I know it’s the mic b/c i put an old tape in and the speaker worked fine. Any clue on why the mic is no longer working and what I can do to fix it?

paris hilton can fix it
The only solution I can think of is if you have an external jack for a mic. to plug in a hand held mic. that might work. Howerver not every camcorder has one. If it does not then my best advice is to get a new one. Min. cost to repair something like that is prob. around $350. The camera is somewhat out of date. You would be better of investing in a new one.
